Yuzuru Hanyu - NHK Trophy 2016 (Sorteio)

azngrl-skate.tumblr.
NHK Trophy 2016: This news video shows parts of the 1st 2 official practices, drawing of turns for SP and the press conference.

At the SP draw, Yuzu sat on a chair that squeaked whenever he sat on it. HAHAHA……..
[Yuzu enters the room for turn-drawing]
Yuzu: Eh? Japan is in front, right?  Yes, let’s sit in front.
[He sits and cushion squeaks.]
Yuzu: It’s like a ‘bu-bu’ cushion! (laughs)

[The 3 childhood friends– Yuzuru Hanyu, Ryuju Hino and Keiji Tanaka]
Yuzu: How many years since the 3 of us competed together?….. Even novice, we weren’t all 3 together, right?……. So it’s the first time…… same category. Because I went up to senior very quickly.
Ryuju: My junior Grand Prix debut was same time as your senior Grand Prix debut.

[Yuzu goes to draw his turn. He is #9 to skate for SP]

allyuzurustuff.tumblr.
Press conference (from 2 news programmes):

Q:  Will you be able to break the world records again?

Yuzu:  Yes, the condition is possible.  But I am doing something completely different from last year, I myself do not intend at all to do the same performance as last year….. I am aiming for the best performance that 'the present me’ can do with the present layout, and I want to do that properly.

He was asked about Nathan Chen. He said Nathan’s quad flip and quad lutz are more difficult jumps than his own quad loop, so it gave him a lot of stimulus and he is very motivated to do even better.

Yuzuru Hanyu - Victory interview right after FS - NHK Trophy 2016

azngrl-skate.tumblr.

Q: Congratulations for the consecutive victories at the NHK cup.

Yuzuru Hanyu:  Thank you so much!

Q: When the result was announced, you looked relieved. How were you feeling?

YH: Yes, I was quite nervous today, and I wanted to do a revenge against yesterday’s performance. I barely managed to land the Loop, but I think I still have a long way… no, it’s not ‘still’… erm, yes, I do still have a lot to do, so I would like to make more efforts towards the next (competition).

Q: After the performance, you made a gesture that ‘it was so close’.

YH: Well, when rethinking in a cool head, it wasn’t that close at all. My SP was ‘so close’, though. I will come back after making more practice.

Q: You have a FS with 4 quads, which is a very challenging programme. How do you review your entire programme?

YH: It was my first time to fully rotate all 4 quads. Although I couldn’t add a triple (salchow) after the last 3A, having two 3As in the second half is quite exhausting physically. 3A is my weapon in terms of points and impression, so it was good in that sense.

Q: You had a new purple costume for the SP yesterday, and you changed some choreography for today’s FS. You have made several changes for this NHK Trophy; how do you look back the entire performances for the two days in total?

YH: In terms of jumps, there are lots to be improved, and in terms of today’s FS I could have done a lot better for spins and steps.
But more importantly, I was able to skate in very warm atmosphere as it is in Japan. I was able to see only the first rows during the SP,  but during the FS I was able to look at the audience in far seats. It was a good step forward for the future.

Q: This time, you participated in the competition with your Japanese cohorts, and Mr. Tanaka won the third place.

YH: Yes, I am truly happy.  But for Mr Hino, I am feeling ‘hey, come on!’ (laughter).

Q: Were you enjoying the competition with them?

YH: Yes, I was purely enjoying it.  I myself didn’t have any room in my heart before the FP, but I understood that Mr. Tanaka’s performance was excellent, based upon the audience reaction.  Probably Keiji (Tanaka) didn’t notice but I was able to clap my hands for him when he was leaving (the ice). So, in that sense, I might have matured a little bit (laughter).

Q: So, you scored higher than 300 points, and you are going to the GPF.  What are you aiming at?

YH: I am indeed so relieved to be able to go to the Final, and I am glad that I managed to go beyond 300 points here in Japan again. I would like to make sure to prepare myself well and make efforts aiming at a good performance at the Final, too.

Q: Please give a message to the fans in Japan and in Sapporo.

YH: Thank you so much (for all your cheering) today. I performed the SP as if I became a rockstar myself, thank you, and for the FP, I was able to feel the joy of skating in front of all of you. Thank you so much. I will continue doing my best, so please keep cheering for me. Thank you!

Interview after NHK Trophy 2016 with Yuzuru Hanyu, Keiji Tanaka and Satoko Miyahara.

hanyuninare.tumblr.

(alternative video HERE)

Interviewer: Congratulations on your consecutive victory for the NHK Trophy.
Yuzu: Thank you
I: As expected of the absolute champion, you were really strong.
Y: No, I’m not there yet… I still have a lot to do.
(Review of NHK Trophy)
(Introduction of Nobunari Oda)
Nobu: Congratulations all of you! So today we have Satton (Satoko), Yuzu, and Keiji.   Hey, stop being so stiff, smile!

N: So our first topic… The new generation of quads. So first I noticed Hanyu-senshu’s 4Lo. You tried one in the SP and FS, how did they each feel?
Y: In the SP, the axis bent so I felt like I was close but I didn’t make it. In the FS, I somehow managed, and I was able to make it flow after.
N: Has the feel become better from the other competitions?
Y: Yes, the consistency in practice has of course gone up, but I was ready to do it in the real thing, in a environment with nervousness.
N: In a press conference I remember you saying “I will do it with a shuu and land it with a paa. It feels like that, and I’m just like this.”
Y: Yes (awkward)
N: Can you explain that more detailed?
Y: Well shuu… and paa. (2:52) (Points at the screen) That’s the paa.
N: So with a shuu you can do a quad… The shuu is when you go onto the edge?
Y: No, it’s when I jump.
N: And when you land it’s paa?
Y: Yes, I mean don’t you get it?
N: No no.. we had this conversation before but I don’t get it.  Satoko, do you get it?
Satoko: Mmh… I think I kinda understand.
N: Oh! We have another genius here. What about you Keiji?
Keiji: I have no idea…

N: So compared to before I retired, there’s many skaters who can do quads and there are some who try out new ones. Does it concern you?
Y: It does but it stimulates me to do better. Sometimes it makes me think “I’m still doing easy jumps”
N: What easy!? Those aren’t easy…
Y: It gives me confidence to try new stuff.
N: And Keiji.. you tried 2 4S this time, although the first one you touched the ice. Are you planning on adding new kinds of quads?
K: Yes, to adapt with the new generation I want to do more (in each program) and add in terms of types too.
N: How about you, Yuzu? This season you added the 4Lo, but are you planning to add more?
Y: I’m not thinking about that now. I want to polish my skating with this organization I have right now. Towards next season, I’m just thinking I want to try out new things. In the end, it’s not about whether I can jump or not, it’s more about if I can add them to the song or not. If it’s about technique, I do have a certain confidence, so I want to try out little by little.
N: It (4Lo) was clean in your FS and there’s still many important competitions this season, I hope you can land them well.

N: So let’s go to another topic. The next topic is 巻き返し (comeback, catch-up).
(Part about Satoko– omitted)
N: What about you two? How do you change moods (from a unsatisfying SP to FS or a fall)?
Y: This time I fell in the second half of my FS and I fell on my first jump in my SP…  In that way, I usually try to forget. I concentrate on what’s next and I forget. When it goes well I even forget what I jumped. (laughs)
N: Yes me too… I forget what I did when I fall… (Yuzu laughing)

N:  So next topic, same year (same age). So Keiji and Yuzu are of same age. Keiji, what do you think of Hanyu-senshu?
K: We’ve been together since Novice level, and at Jr level he suddenly went to the top and became unreachable. So being able to skate at the same competition this time. I want to keep this feeling of competition from now on.
N: How do you feel about this Yuzu? You’ve been laughing half of the time he was talking.
Y: I was just simply happy. There’s this thing that we weren’t in the same category since I went to senior level quite fast. So now I’m like “oh you’re finally here”, and he reached the podium fast too.
N: What do you think about each other’s personality? Keiji, what do you think about Yuzu?
K: Sometimes he suddenly becomes high. (Yuzu laughing)
N: Can you tell us more about that?
K: There’s too much to talk about. (laughs)
N: Any episode? Like when he sees tasty snacks? (11:38 Yuzu doing a funny expression to Nobu)
K: No, it’s more like I can’t keep up to his mood. He’s too like happy and high sometimes. (Yuzu nodding)
N: Yuzu, do you know what he’s talking about?
Y: Yes I think I know what he’s talking about.
N: What about you Yuzu, what do you think of Keiji?
Y: He’s like patient. Sometimes I start talking too much about something but he will still be there listening and nodding. He accepts whatever I say. (laughs)
(Sorry I will skip a bit. But overall, Keiji said when he sees Yuzu succeed, it motivates him to do more. And they showed a video of Yuzu clapping after Keiji’s FS. And Yuzu said he was just purely happy for his friend even though he was nervous before his own turn.)

N: So finally, how do you feel about GPF? Any comments?
S: Before that, (she stands up) Yuzu kun, congratulations on your win today. (everyone laughed cause it was so sudden) I wanted to tell you properly because after my FS, I was watching men’s FS and I realized again how great you are and I want to work harder too.
Yuzu: I don’t know how to react when people tell me this face to face. (everyone laughed)
N: Your feelings about GPF?
Y: We will try our best together. I know people have been discussing about a 4th consecutive title but I want to give all I have to do a satisfying performance so that I can end with my best smile.

Yuzuru Hanyu - Akiko`s Room - NHK TROPHY 2016

kichessarjilian.tumblr.

Yuzuru Hanyu: Hello everyone~

Man: Have a seat please.

Akiko: Welcome to Akiko’s room!

Hanyu: It’s not my first time right?

Akiko: Yes, we did this last year. It’s our pleasure to have you here again.

Hanyu: My pleasure, too.

Man: First of all, congratulations for another championship!

Hanyu: Thank you very much.

Man: How do you feel now? After one night of rest?

Hanyu: To be honest, regret. (laugh) I want to be better, after all.

Akiko: You did the gesture (“mou chotto” = a bit more) yesterday, and the day before after the short program…

Hanyu: Just to clarify, I was not holding a snack, the purple thing. (laugh)

(t/n. Some fans thought that his purple SP costume looks like a snack by bourbon) (see fan-edited pic above, seems like he saw it too) ^^

Akiko: What do you think about the sign you gave us?  After one night of rest?

Hanyu:  When I do this (the “mou chotto” sign), I actually mean the length of equator. (laugh)
Akiko: That’s REALLY long! (laugh)

Hanyu: I really got a lot to work on.

Man: Did you get good sleep last night?

Hanyu: No, I was too excited to sleep. I probably slept about 3 hours and that’s all. I was sleeping right before this (interview), so sorry for not being energetic.

Akiko: Wake up! Please! (laugh)

Man: Now, let’s review Hanyu’s FS performance yesterday together, and he will do some explanation for us.

Akiko: It’s will be great if you can talk about this to us.

Hanyu: I was really nervous…(Man: Here comes the first 4Lo…)  That’s the “shuu” and the “pa” (laugh). The axis was way more bent than I thought, but I landed, so that’s alright. (About the 4S,) when I jumped up, I knew I nailed this one, it felt good.

Man: And then the next 4S…

Hanyu: Yes, I had the problem from before, and after that (fall) I realized there’s more to be done.  But the audience was yelling “gannbatte!” to me, and the claps, that really helped me with the next toeloop.

Man: What specifically is the thing when you said “there’s more to be done”?

Hanyu: There are tons of things to take care of, and how carefully I can deal with them is the most important task for me. I didn’t do well this time.

Akiko: Your first quad was done perfectly. What’s the difference between the 4S in the first half and in the second half?

Hanyu: For me, the difference is mental. My coach once said to me, “You can do the salchow with your eyes closed, and you can do the toeloop while picking your nose!” (laugh

Man: The expression “picking your nose” does not fit you at all, Hanyu-senshu. (laugh)

Hanyu: That is to say, I’ve got the confidence in my jumps, and the success rate (for 4S and 4T) is quite great, so the only task to conquer is the concept of ”the second half”.

Man: Suzuki-san (aka Akiko), he has 3 combination jumps in the second half.

Hanyu: Yes, when I started to put 3A in the second half, I was considering putting combination jumps, too. This time it was backfired, the recovery wasn’t that I was hoping, but as the problems and tasks comes out (so that I can solve them), I am happy that I gave it a try.

Man: This year at the NHK trophy, you scored above 300 points again. Your programs are amazing.

(Hanyu:Thanks a lot.) Before the SP, there was something exciting that happened..… It’s not about the program itself, but the 6 minute warm-up before that.
(the screen shows when Yuzuru took off his jacket and the crowd was surprised by his purple costume)

Hanyu: I was so nervous…

Man: Eh? You mean about taking off the jacket?

Hanyu: Yes, I was really nervous.

Man: What do you think of the reaction from the audience?

Hanyu: I got that serious face because of my nervousness, but I was actually very happy inside (laugh). It’s like, “Look, I changed it!”

Man: Suzuki-san, we reporters were not told, right?

Akiko: Yes, at first I was like “he’s not in white pants?” when he came out for practice. And then he took off the jacket, and I was as surprised as the audience.

Hanyu: The white version made my movements hard to see, and many people told me that, including Jeffery Buttle (Yuzuru’s choreographer). Also, the white one you can see through the lining, and that’s another problem. So after some discussion, we made it purple. We might change it further, because we want to give more of the live feeling.

Man:  The outfit attracted a lot of attention and the program itself is really difficult…

Hanyu: Yes, it’s quite uncommon to put all the edge jumps in SP.
Akiko :You mean loop, salchow and axel…

Hanyu: As my belief or my pride, I am trying to jump all salchows along the short side of the rink, because edge jumps are usually executed along the long side of the rink, I mean through a curve. But in my case, I have decided to jump salchows along the similar path as toeloops. **

Man: Not like pre-competition interview, we’re talking about quite different things here (in this interview).

Akiko: Yes, and we’re all excited to watch the next program (the GALA program).

Hanyu: Please look forward to it.

Man: And, the topic of Akiko’s room this time, although you might not have a lot of rest time (Hanyu: No worries, I got some sleep right before this!), is “How I spend my off-day time”. Let’s see your answer.

Hanyu: (shows the board) Sleep until noon, and play video games until midnight. It’s great. (laugh)

Man: That’s a good way to relax I guess?

Hanyu: Maybe sleeping until noon is common, but it’s not good to play video games until midnight.

Akiko: You play video games until midnight, but you have to practise the next day, right?

Hanyu: Of course.

Akiko: Can you concentrate?

Hanyu: I can easily play till 4am. (laugh)

Akiko: That is morning! (laugh)

Hanyu: Yes, it’s dawn.

Man: So in order, it’s like “play video games until midnight, and then sleep until noon”, right?

Hanyu: Yes, that happens too, of course.

Man: They really need that on and off in order to relax.

Akiko: I think so, too.

Hanyu: That’s the only comment I can give. Sorry about that. (laugh)

Man:Talking about concentration…

Akiko: I often see the exciting Yuzuru when he was preparing for the competition, like singing and jumping up and down…

Hanyu: I was not singing.

Akiko: Lip-synching?

Hanyu: Lip-synching, yes. Not bothering anyone.(laugh)

Man: What kind of music do you listen to at that time?

Hanyu: For example, ONE OK ROCK and BUMP OF CHICKEN and others.  (t/n. both are Japanese rock bands)

Akiko: Usually fast songs?

Hanyu: Yes, because I’m usually very nervous at that time…(screen shows Yuzuru lip-synching) Here I think I was singing Butterfly by Koji Wada, from Digimon. (FYI: theme song to the Digimon Adventure anime )

Man: Do you decide the song according to the competition of that day?

Hanyu: Actually I’ve got a playlist for warming-up time and I put it on shuffle.

Akiko: A playlist! So they are songs that make you high…

Hanyu: There are about 60 songs in it, so it’s random and I myself don’t really know what song will be next.

Man: So there are really many ways to prepare. We have entered the 2nd half of the season, and the Pyeongchang Olympics is getting closer, how do you feel now?

Hanyu: hmm…. Pyeongchang Olympics does not feel like reality to me yet. I just want to do carefully the competitions one by one in this season. But for the Olympics, I am now working hard, like putting 4 quads in one program. It’s not complete yet. I can do it in practice but I’m working on doing it in competition with consistency. I will continue to work towards the Olympics.

Akiko: It’s really a pleasure to watch someone like Hanyu-senshu to keep growing, keep improving. (Hanyu:Thanks a lot.) Please keep working, we’ll all be watching and cheering for you!

Hanyu: I will, thank you so much.

Man: And please come to Akiko’s room again.

Hanyu: Of course. I’ll try to keep my score good enough to be invited (laugh)

Man: Thank you for your time.

Hanyu: Thank you very much!

Shuzo Matsuoka interviews Yuzuru Hanyu after NHK Trophy (aired on TV Asahi 28 Nov 2016)

skate15ylove.tumblr.

Shuzo: You made this pose during the competition this time. We were wondering what it means…

Yuzuru: I thought “it was so close” (mou choi), particularly for the SP.  As you know, I have newly included 4Lo for this competition… or rather it’s a new jump for this season. I thought if only I could have adjusted the gap of my feeling [for the 4Lo] a bit more.
(narration)

Yuzuru: I feel way too frustrated. I am saying “so close” but if compared to the size of the globe, it would be equal to the length of the whole equator. Baan!

Shuzo: What are you feeling frustrated for?

Yuzuru: My performance was as such, despite I was thinking that I could do everything properly. Of course, there are lots of parts that have got better, but despite the hard practice and the confidence I built, I am able to execute only to this extent? That’s what I was feeling.

Shuzo: Can’t you think like “I am improving a little bit” or “it’s OK to fail only a bit”?

Yuzuru: No, I can’t. Competitions are only for once. There is one for less than 3 mins (SP) and the other for less than 5 mins (FP), and within these two programmes, the number of jumps is, according to the limit, about … well how many is it…?  8 plus 3 equals… 11. There are only 11 jumps. Only for 11 jumps, we skaters devote our skating life for decades.  So, it’s hard to feel that “I have grown! I have done it!!”… It’s not so easy.

Shuzo: So, it’s not that “it was so close” but rather you feel so frustrated. Your frustration…

Yuzuru: Well, if possible, I would like to do this way. (hitting down with fist) Ghaaan!  I want to do it like this.  (laughs)  That’s “Yuzuru Hanyu”.

(narration, screen shows NHK Trophy 2015 and GPF 2015)

Shuzo: (During the last season) you made two perfect performances one after another, so we have received a strong impression that Mr Hanyu never makes a mistake.

Yuzuru: Yes, indeed. There were lots of pressure. Especially for this NHK trophy, I was feeling that “I’ll have to make it”. As you know, there is this [equation] “NHK Cup = Yuzuru Hanyu = the World Record”. There is this sort of a package.  So, I feel pressure, equally for the GPF this year. But, that is “expectation”, I mean pressure is expectation. I love pressure, I love being at the edge of a cliff, hurrah!  Something like that. (laughter)

Shuzo: Does it mean that you were able to change it [pressure] to something positive?

Yuzuru:  From way before, I regard pressure as a positive thing. I could take it as power to push my back. There are many ways to change it to power, so I’d like to ride the flow.

Shuzo: We selfishly expect that “it might well be another perfect performance”.

Yuzuru: Well, I also aim at a full score. Of course, that is my aim but this season is a rather challenging one… so… no, I am not going to think that way, changed my mind.  [Apparently, Yuzuru changed his thought here.]  I think I can do it.

Shuzo: However, it’s a very difficult one, it’s not as though you were able to achieve something that you have been trying for a long time, as it includes something new.

Yuzuru: But I can do it. [He nods a few times with a smile.] For the NHK trophy, I mumbled “I can do it, I can do it, I can do it” three times.

[narration + Yuzu skating to the centre to start the SP, his mouth saying “dekiru” (I can).]

Yuzuru: It was like this; I was thinking that I could definitely execute 4Lo, and as a result of challenging it, I was able to land in the FP eventually. By believing in the strength of words, I think I can become even stronger.

Shuzo: By saying “I can do it, I can do it, I can do it”, what do you think have changed?

Yuzuru: Self-confidence. I can feel more confident in myself. By saying so, I was able to execute a perfect programme in a practice in the past, so I was able to challenge towards the competition based upon such self-confidence.

Shuzo: Believe in yourself. I will believe in you and look forward to watching you at Marseille.

Yuzuru: Thank you. Thank you very much.

This blog is a summary of some facts of life and skater Yuzuru Hanyu career. The idea came from not find almost anything here in Brazil about Yuzuru and / or skating , but when searching the world discovered so things became difficult absorb and organize all ; hence this blog was born .
